Eating Out:

Restaurante Marisqueira Praca Velha

Specalises in Shellfish but caters for all tastes. Eat out on the terraces looking over the market place and the river Gilao.

O Patio
Rua Antonio Cabreira, 30, 1.
Phone 281323008
Closed on Sundays in winter.

Something for everyone here in this rustic restaurant. Superb prawn flambeed at the table. Also try the fish steak or the grilled sea bream. Plenty of meat to choose from also. Eating on the terrace is a must in summer where you can dine looking out over the beautiful traditional rooftops, the tower of Igreja de Santa Maria and also the castle of Tavira.

Restaurante Quatro Aguas
Sitio das Quatro Aguas,
Phone: 281325329

Renowned for its fillet of octopus with bean rice. Many other delicious dishes on offer, such as char grilled fish wrapped in foil with aromatic herbs. All this can be enjoyed with fabulous views over the Ria. Quatro Aguas also has an international wine list with many wines on offer.

Casa do Polvo
Avenida Eng. Duarte Pacheco, n.3,
Santa Luzia,
Phone: 965084207
Closed on Wednesdays.

Casa do Polvo in Santa Luzia is a short drive from the villa and a great place to eat lunch or dinner. Its speciality is Octopus (hence being called ‘house of Octopus’). It is very reasonably priced and the quality of food is fantastic. My personal recommendation is the Octopus festival salad which is steamed in wine with new potatoes. Most dishes come in half or full sizes so for the experimental person in you why not try a number of the half dishes.

Restaurante Vale d’el Rei
Aldeamento turistico Pedras d’el Rei
Phone: 281380600.
Only 5 minutes drive from the villa and set in beautiful surroundings Restaurante Vale d’el Rei is intimate and romantic. Relax and dine on the large terrace with a view over the lawn and swimming pool and large fig tree. A lively restaurant filled with guests and visitors staying in the village of Pedras d’el Rei.

Places to go - Picnic Spots

Parque de merendas no Arroio.
Located 4 minutes down the road in Luz de Tavira this is a very relaxing place to set up and have a picnic.

Pego do Inferno:
Not just ideal for picnics but also a place you should see for the seven metre waterfall and beautiful rock pool. To get there take the first left on the last roundabout before the river Gilao on the way to Santo Estevao. Follow the sign posts for Moinhos da Rocha.

Parque da Fonte
Located in Cachopo parquet da fonte is a nice place for watching the nature and simply relaxing with a picnic.

Agua dos Fusos

A lovely spot which has panoramic views of the coast and of the Serra de Santa Maria.

Bird Watching.

Casa Do Sitio Do Pinherio Villa is situated in the heart of the Ria Formosa which has taken 14 thousand years to form and is one of the most important humid zones in Portugal. It is a protected area that will never be developed on. The Ria is made up of beaches, sand banks, salt marshes, dunes and channels which come together to form an outstanding beauty.

The Ria contains 200 different species of birds, plants reptiles. It is a stop of for many migratory birds flying from Scandinavia and Northern Europe to Africa. It is a resting place for some birds that are at the risk of extinction (common tern, the Brent goose and curlew sandpiper). The white stork, flamingos and the heron can all be seen in the salt marshes.
